MATO Menswear

Design Brief 
Create a brand system that encompasses all aspects of branding, including social media pages, store merchandise, advertising, and a clear brand voice. My choice was to develop a men's streetwear clothing brand that embodies the roots of California.

Inspiration
MATO Menswear is a clothing brand based in Los Angeles, CA. The brands mission is to set a new standard for menswear through quality design and material. My branding process began with research on the Karok tribe, the first settlers of California. Their native word for grizzly bear is, "matos," this inspired me to choose the grizzly as their logo. Final product includes shirt samples, advertisements, social media identity, and a physical location.
The grizzly was selected as my logo for what it represents: adventurous and prosperity. The 'A' in the wordmark ties into the Karok tribe, who were among the first settlers of California. This symbol was widely used in their quilts and other clothing.

Their physical location has an open and minimal look. The glass window front gives customers an idea on what's available, and used to post signage for sales and other special events.
